Whose fault Is It You're Fat? Part 1

12/4/2014

Muffin tops, mummy tummy, thunder thighs, bingo wings! All affectionate names for the parts of our bodies we hate! Have you been there? Are you there? Do you find you lose fat easily from some areas yet other areas seem never to shift?

I remember training a lady years ago, she was on my fat loss plan. After 6 weeks we measured her. She lost fat EVERYWHERE except ONE place.... her bust! That actually went up! She was over the moon (and so was her husband incidently) I have no idea how that happened but if i could package it up and sell it, I would be a billionaire.

I have helped hundreds of people lose fat over the years, and it became clear that i was saying the same things over and over again. I asked myself how can these people not know this? To me it was common sense but that was my mistake, my ignorance!

How does society perceive fat people?

Look at the image to the right, what words are conjured up? I did a post like this on my facebook page Dean Zweck Health and Well Being and people commented "fat" "lazy" "greedy" "repulsive" along with a few others. I use the word VICTIM. A victim of society, a victim of mis-information, a victim of greedy companies and Governments who make money of people, you, getting fat! They have no ethics or desire in keeping you healthy. Luckily that's why I'm here!

So who is to blame for the obesity epidemic?

Current research says that we are the THIRD FATTEST country in the world, with 23% of adults obese (BMI greater than 30) and kids, 27% are overweight or obese! The is predicted to rise to 50% by 2030! One in two of us will be obese!
Picture
This places a huge burden on our NHS with over £5billion spent treating obesity related problems, such as:

1. Diabetes
2. Coronary Heart Disease
3. Cancer
4. Osteoarthritis

This problem is showing no sign of stopping, the world is getting fatter, and sicker and more unhappy day by day!

Who is to Blame?

1. The Fitness Industry!

Yep, that's right! The industryI love, and the one I am so passionate about! It has to shoulder the blame! Every day I get sent an email on new research showing how low carb diets work, or how Intermittent Fasting works, or how high carb diets work, or how eating regularly is best! See, very confusing isn't it. And i still hear all the time that doing lots of exercise and restricting calories will help! Let me make it clear now, IT WON'T! I wrote about this in more detail in my blog The Fitness Industry is Failing. In fact 95% of all diets don't work, with 66% ending up fatter than before they start, one year post-diet!

2. Food companies and supermarkets

A walk around any supermarket will show you just how many processed foods there are. These foods are high in sugar, high in fat or both. And none are good for you. But these companies and supermarkets do such as good job of tricking you into believing they are good that it is no wonder you end up buying the products. Take a look at the picture below, "Healthy Cereals" stick healthy in front or something unhealthy and there you have a money-making product right there! I saw a sign for "healthy cakes" the other day in Morrisons! You have got to be kidding me! When did cakes get the health vote?
Picture
And just look around you at work or in town. How many people sup on energy drinks or fruit juice believing them to be healthy! They are in fact just loaded with sugar! Drinking sugar is terrible for your waist line! Want to find out what happened to the man who drank 10 cokes a day for a month, click here! But be warned it doesn't make for pleasant viewing!
In addition to that, chemicals are added to the food like MSG that actually make the food addictive. You can't help but want to crave this food once you start eating it, as you are literally being drugged.

3. Healthy food is too expensive!

A slightly controversial one here as I believe people should pay for health y food first and then see what's left each month, but I am an idealist and this isn't and ideal word! But the Government should do more to make healthy food more accessible, or to make fatty sugary processed food more expensive.
Picture
If you are a Mum with three children screaming out they want a burger, there is only so many times you can say NO! And when you look at the money at the end of the month, you may have no choice but to succumb to the readily available, extremely fattening fast, processed food and drink that plague our society.

BUT......

Learning how to cook nutritious meals for the whole family, that would actually cost LESS than these takeaways is a skill worth developing (one we teach right here at Inferno!)
4. Too many so called experts that don't know JACK or have no qualifications!

I am not going to ramble on and rant about all the companies that sell fat loss and weight loss products with the sole intention of MAKING MONEY and not improving health. Some are better than others and actually do want to help, but are just mis-informed, others are just plain plagues on society. The pictures below tell a thousand words, and i will them talk for me! Although if the picture on the left seems fine to you, you have been lied to by someone! (This picture was from a slimming world rep and he uses the hashtag #eatclean to denote this is a good meal to have - let me explain Yorkshire pudding and Ale sauce are not examples of clean eating, and i'd imagine there will be other bits of this meal not clean too) *I have blurred out the name to protect this guys identity as I am not here to belittle anyone, hope you can still see the photo!

Please, please, please speak to a professional for help!

5. The Government

I am sorry to say our "beloved" Government is also to blame! And possible should shoulder the majority of it! For years they have told us to eat more "healthy" (there's that word again) whole grains! And guess what, when they did that we all started to get fat! They told us low fat was better (remember the days when we ate lard sandwiches? If you do impressed you are on the interweb!) and guess what, we all got FAT! Why did they do this? Well after the second World War we have stores and stores of rice and pasta to use up, the Government didn't want this going to waste so they released the dietary recommendations that are still used today, eat the majority of you diet as healthy grains! The picture below shows a HUGH emphasis on grains, and the yellow line that is almost non-existent is fat! Guess what, eating too much sugar gets stored as fat! Ans you NEED FAT TO BURN FAT!!!

So how can you Lose Weight?

Well I can't say it better than this man, Ben Coomber. His video "Diet - The Disease of our Generation" explains how what we eat is killing us! And takes us back to basics - eating real food made of just one ingredient! Food that has been grown, or has lived, has been handled by a human and not created by a machine! Watch it! It could change your life!
